A baby hippopotamus that survived the tsumani waves on the Kenyan coast has formed an unlikely, strong bond with a giant male century-old tortoise, in an animal facility in the port city of Mombasa.
The hippo, nicknamed Owen, was swept down Sabaki River into the Indian Ocean, then forced back to shore when tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast on Dec. 26, before wildlife rangers rescued him.

Former President Gerald Ford, who sought to heal the nation after the tumultuous years of the Watergate scandal, died yesterday at age 93, his widow, Betty Ford said. In a brief address to the nation this morning, President Bush called Ford a “great man” who was a “true gentleman.”

Hey, Holy Rollers — After feeling worse than a Britney Spears hangover for a few days straight, I finally went to the doctor and found out I have shingles (which my mom was convinced only “older people” got, but apparently not so). Just in time for the holidays! Merry Christmas to me.
