Given the state of education in this motherfucking country - education that consists of nothing but tedious time consuming work that is not designed to develop critical thinking - everyone has the GOD given right to fucking sleep in class, lest they literally be bored to death. Sue the fucking bitch! Sue the bitch!

I had a teacher who honked the horn on the van when parking at my garage with me sitting right in front. I went to a school where the teachers picked you up. I am mentally ill hence my “name”. The horn was VERY loud. I hope that bitch gets fired. And yeah school was boring. It’s her fault for putting him to sleep with all those boring lessons. I had a few good teachers who made me look forward to their classes. I always got A’s in them. The boring ones… A- to C- and a couple Ds. She needs to look at herself and wonder what she can do better. I decided to get my GED and go straight to college. Classes are fun there.
They have to be or no one will pay money to take them. HAW!

..and we wonder why the Aisan countries are passing us by and are starting to see us in their rear view mirror. They teach math, language, history and science. We teach self esteem, which is fine but all we have now is a generation of idiots that feel good about themselves.

Hearing damage from a hand slamming down on a desk?
Yeah, I’m sure that’s what did it,
it couldn’t be the iPod cranked up to maximum level, like I see on the train everyday. When you’re sitting ten feet away from me, and I know what you’re listening to, you’ll need a hearing aid before you get gray hair.
Umm, what was the topic again?

Bee hind, you’re right about that. His eardrum had to be weakened by something ELSE. Tired is wrong about the self esteem thing. They are idiots AND they STILL have a low self-image. School teaches too much in one sitting, so when you get home you forget EVERYTHING. Nothing sinks in. When I was in school it wasn’t so bad, but my younger cousins have to suffer ignorance. :*(

Psychochick…if nothing has sunk in, then study, read and ask questions. Education doesn’t end in the classroom, it only begins there

That kid had the ears of a weakling!
The American education system is driven by Pres. Bush’s “No Child Left Behind.”
(or “No Child’s Behind Left” as the late great Gov. of Texas, Anne Richards, called it).
Test driven, boring curriculum is the order of the day. Thank our highest ranking officials for it.

Oh my…. without judging this situation, I am tempted to remember my own Catholic grade school education. Believe me (and a bunch of great comedians) there is nothing like being thrashed on your knuckles with a ruler for answering incorrectly…
… or being forced to stand in the back of the room as though you are crucified with your arms extended and ten pounds of books on each hand. Yikes.

Or in the case of my former classmate who broke the ‘no gum’ rule and had to sit in class for an entire week with the gum on his nose. Say what you will about Catholic schools, but the kids back then were much better behaved than they are now. They had to be- or else!

I used to work in a public library and I can tell you - the school work is boring and tedious and DOES NOT FOSTER ANY BRAIN ACTIVITY.
As a reference librarian, I used to help kids with their homework and projects. The parents would come in all flustered. The kids would drool, they were so bored. The projects were ridiculous and tedious. I kept asking, “what are they going to learn from this?” The parents would be besides themselves. There was an article in Salon.com about schools assigning 3 to 5 hours of homework a night. Three would be tops, I say. But when you think of a kid having to do hours of tedious shit over and over again, THIS IS THE REASON KIDS BRING GUNS TO SCHOOL AND UNLOAD THEM.
I also think this shit does nothing for anyone’s self esteem. The best thing about education is that it gives you choices. Boring the fuck out of people does not empower them.

It’s about choices for sure–exposing kids to options in life. Maybe they want to go into medicine or tool and die or they just wanna get a job after high school–often, though, school counselors leave kids out to dry, especially if they come from the wrong side of the tracks.
When I was in high school, I learned to split my note pages down the middle–one side for notes and the other for doodling. My son brings books to school.

This is my school and I cannot believe that the story has become national news. The teacher is one of the nicest in the school, and it would be a shame if she got fired for this situation. There are so many rumors going around like the kid moved to Florida, the kid is an illegal immigrant, etc. Needless to say, no one is very happy with the kid nor the lawyer who is representing him. All the local media is making it seem as though the student is a “computer wizard” and a “scholar” while he has failed every single class (except for his stellar D in Computer I).
