Trashy Tabloids are Really Nothing More Than Glossy Comic Books

Filed under: Tabloid Comics, Tabloid Tactics

worstbodieslo2.jpg If tabloids changed their glossy full-color format into black and white cartoons complete with hand-drawn line art and conversation bubbles, they’d make entertaining comic books. No need to make up strange stories or create bizarre characters - it’s all right there in glorious full color.  This particular comic comes straight from the cover of a recent tabloid staple: the twice yearly Best and Worst Celebrity Bodies feature. You’ve seen them in grocery stores - images of the rich and infamous splashed across the cover, cottage cheese thighs peaking from under skirts, flabby bits dangling from skimpy bikinis, plastic surgery nightmares exposed…and then one or two photos of a perfectly taut and tanned body (usually a 21 year old starlet).  This is first of a series of reality comics based on tabloid “reporting” and you’ll see many more coming soon.  Medium: Scrawls scanned out of sketchbook, digital color. View a select panel in more detail after the jump.  ravaged.jpg  I would opine that Brit’s body has likely suffered more damage from the sugary fraps and salty, fatty and chemical-laden junk food she enjoys more than by prescription drugs, but that’s not sensational enough a claim for a tabloid cover.

  1. Oh goodie goodie. Thank you for the Brit toon. I have been having withdraws waiting for one of you to feel Britspired. Love it!!!!

  2. no matter what shape the celebs, this finds you in fine form, 14!

  3. Jane

Tooooo good 14. Although this Brit reminds me of the real life Tori, and OMG, does this cartoon Tori have hooves? So farking fabulous!

  4. Jenn F.

The “sexy” belt buckle is the perfect addition, especially with the stomach bulging around it. And the zombie eyes on Courtney! Too funny.

  5. midevil

AS usual, 14 does not disappoint.

  6. I love the comic book theme, it’s funny how the tabloids elevate body flaws to the level of classic monster characteristics. also, britney looks awesome. her clothing and expression and everything resembles a part time hooker who doesn’t give a fuck anymore, which is maybe how she feels after being used by the industry.

L.O.V.E the Brit Brit one. Are those marks from tanning around her forehead like she’s been sporting lately?
Great attention to detail. Pretty much sums up Brit.. that turkey-like neck, the huge spare tire, the hanging breasts.
    So true.

  8. Jenn

Brilliant as always 14. I thought the freaky armed chick was Madonna at first glance.

  9. I do think tabloids should make fun of celebrities who have had so much plastic surgery so they look more beautiful than though.

Bonnie Fuller, the ring leader in all of this shit, has NO RIGHT TO CRITICIZE ANY BODY PART ON ANY HUMAN, NOT EVEN SOMEONE’S EYELASH.

  10. Oh and I forgot, that picture of Posh Spice that 14 drew? That should be the picture, the only fucking picture that the public sees of her!

Jenn, I thought it was Madge the Vadge too! I would much rather look at celebretards in cartoon form…I just ate!

  12. Lovely and so hot. I might even wipe the Cheetos grease off my hands before tucking into some of Teh Brit.

As an aside, 14, is there some way to subscribe to just your posts here on Circus Hour? The other posts are just not interesting to me and I’d just as soon not get a new post notification and find it’s (yet another) kind of a stupid celeb-gawking post. I much prefer your wicked brushwork.

    Erik and Hannah,

There is no way to subscribe to separate feeds. However, you may view solely 14’s work at http://circushour.com/author/14/ and my posts (many of which are similar to Holy Candy’s) at http://circushour.com/author/candy/. We also have a number of fun, provocative collaborations under our belt and in the pipeline, which can be viewed here: http://circushour.com/author/14-and-candy/.

I like to think I take a wry, rather than gawking, approach to celebrity news, but I understand not everyone’s interested in the daily drivel!

Hope you both continue swinging by the site. Like I said, we have a lot of entertaining projects in store.

I can’t believe there isn’t a picture of Brit and her “landing strip” that she has grown accustomed to lately. Would like to see that.

My God…these are fabulous. Tabloids would be so much more entertaining if they were like this. It reminds me of those Peter Chung Aeon Flux cartoons where everyone is ridiculously unrealistic yet completely fascinating. I love 14’s depictions of Britney.
