Gallery of the Absurd To Become Circus Hour Media

It brings me great waves of shuddering pleasure to finally announce my new venture. As some of you might have noticed, I’ve been collaborating a great deal with Candy Kirby from the celebrity satire blog Holy Candy. She and I had so much fun brainstorming and creating projects together that we decided to merge our two sites into a brand new one, which will be an even bigger and better version of our sites. Starting this Wednesday, February 20th, Gallery of the Absurd and Holy Candy will merge and debut as Circus Hour. Send in the clowns!I’ll still be creating illustrations based on celebrity gossip, but I’ll also be expanding my scope to include other aspects of mass culture that have for some time now, bewildered and amused me. Expect to see parodies of the fashion and beauty industry, the news media, the advertising industry and a wide variety of pop-culture oddities. Also, unlike Gallery of the Absurd, which I could only update around 3 - 4 times a week, Circus Hour posts will be updated several times a day. In addition to my illustrations, Circus Hour will include Candy’s daily updates poking fun at celebrity craziness, more collaborations, Candy’s video blog - a parody news show called Sideshow Candy, featuring graphics by yours truly - as well as plans for animation. We also have guest artists and writers lined up (including Jeff Polage!), and want even more input by YOU, our clever readers, so we’ve added a feature-filled commenting forum, social networking options and the opportunity for reader-generated content to make this site community even more interactive and fun.Best of all, we have a chimp on staff! Sure, Bunky has a gambling problem, is obsessed with Paris Hilton, and spends too much of his free time stumbling around chasing women while in a boozy stupor, but he’s a masterful business strategist and we’re proud to have him on board.Much thanks and gratitude to all of you who have encouraged and supported Gallery of the Absurd since I started this blog back in 2005. I’ve been blessed to become friends with many of you and I look forward to your musings and input as I continue my satirical and artistic pursuits with Candy and Circus Hour. Also, a big thanks to the many bloggers, editors and newspaper/magazine writers who have helped me along the way. Special thanks to Dlisted, Pop Sugar, Perez Hilton (yeah, I know, but he’s been supportive and nice to me), Pink is The New Blog, TMZ, the WOW Report, the Film Experience, Sean Redlitz, Elliot V. Kotek, Shawn Simon, Marcy M. and Evan F., Holly A., Clay Croker, Tony A. and so many more. The above painting is part of my Celebrity Freak Show Poster series I’ve been working on over the past few weeks. I plan on making one for all our favorite celebrity circus freaks and they’ll be making their appearance on upcoming posts at Circus Hour.Medium: Acrylic and ink on paper, photoshop.

I need to squeeze in one more thank you. This goes to El Mundo, the second largest daily newspaper in Spain for writing up a nice feature about Gallery of the Absurd in the magazine section of Sunday’s newspaper. Thanks so much Miguel and Silvia!

Best wishes on your new endeavor!

  2. Love it! When I saw those pics of Lohan, I couldn’t help thinking she’d do a great Cheetara in the Thundercats movie - she’d save the make-up and SFX departments a fortune!

Good luck in the new venture - does this mean Gallery Of The Absurd is shutting down in favour of Circus Hour?

I think it’s great! Although “Circus Hour” is a neat name, I kinda expected something better from you guys, like “Absurd Candy Gallery” or something.
