Dearest Holy Rollers,
As a philosopher named Britney Spears once said, “I want to wait to have sex until I’m married” – er, wait… wrong quote. She said, “[I] just wanna go that extra mile for you.” Finally, something on which she and I agree because I, too, wanna go that extra mile for you – which is why I am closing up shop here at Holy Candy and merging with satire artist 14 at Gallery of the Absurd to create a bigger and even BETTER celebrity site called Circus Hour (www.CircusHour.com), set to premiere on Weds., February 20th.
Say wha — ?!
Yes, it’s true! This past year and a half with Holy Candy has been amazing; what started as a hobby became my passion and career – and, in addition to having the chance to interact with my fun, clever readers, one of the best highlights has been connecting with GOTA’s 14, who, as you probably know, is a ridiculously talented artist and fellow fun-maker with whom I’ve collaborated on quite a few projects recently. She and I had so much fun working together that we decided to officially join forces in lampooning those crazy celebrities.
Never fear. It’s not like Holy Candy and Gallery of the Absurd are going buh-bye, but rather, they are folding into Circus Hour, which will expand upon our current work and take it to the next level. (Exhibit A: The above kick-ass freak show poster by 14. More to come!) I will still write about the daily celebrity craziness. 14 will still create illustrations based on that gossip. And I will still stalk Clooney. But there will also be a ton of other goodies, including more collaborations, more coverage of fashion, beauty, news media and pop culture, more of my silly video blogs – “The Gossip Gospel” will re-launch as “Sideshow Candy” in a shorter and twice-weekly format, with some cool graphics by 14 – and, eventually, we will dip our toes into animation. We also recognize that the best part of our sites is our commenters (as my mom always says, “They’re funnier than you are, Candy!”), so Circus Hour will take advantage of that with a features-filled commenting forum, social networking options such as Digg, and reader-generated content to make the site community even more interactive and fun.
Perhaps best of all, we are partnering with a boozing, gambling and skirt-chasing chimp named Bunky, who is overseeing our strategic direction and party planning. So expect to see quite a bit of Bunky, who will no doubt make an appearance in our photos, videos and liquor cabinets from time to time.
A hearty THANKS to all of you who have joined me on this wild Britney- and Tom Cruise-fueled blogging ride at Holy Candy, especially my loyal readers and supportive bloggers such as Joy at Pop on the Pop and MK at popbytes. I’m sure we’ll have even wilder ride over at Circus Hour. Looking forward to kicking it off with you tomorrow.
