But What Does Tootie Think?

Filed under: Jamie Lynn Spears, Media

On the heels of their hard-hitting “appropriate teenage maternity wear” piece, People has tapped Facts of Life star and born-again Christian Lisa Whelchel for her thoughts on the Jamie Lynn Spears situation.

I don’t want to keep you in suspense, so… Lisa’s stance?  Team Jamie!

“I’m so proud of her for stepping up and being courageous and taking responsibility for her choices, and I believe she’s being a good role model – a good role model in that situation, to choose to have the baby, and I am supportive of her in that situation,” said the former Blair Warner.

In response, Jamie said, “Who the hell is Lisa Whelchel?”

Giving blind support for political, publicity and religious reasons…is just plain foolish here, without knowing what exactly is the cause of this situation. That said, Jamie Lynn has the money to raise this child properly…but does she have the emotional and spiritual will??? If she is anything like her sister, the child will be raised in a unstable and unsafe environment…creating a mentally and emotionally unstable child.

  2. so just because she didn’t have an abortion, that makes her a good role model? ridiculous. most pregnant teens don’t have her resources or options, and it really bothers me when people pretend there is a universal RIGHT CHOICE for every pregnancy.

  3. Tellin Ya What I Know

Blair is just saying…you take the good, you take the bad, you take it all and then you have, the facts of life!

  4. In response, Jamie said, “Who the hell is Lisa Whelchel?”

    No shit LOLOL

    Even more important: What
    would Mrs. Garrett say???

    Seriously: Yes, it’s fine and
brave to keep the child when
    one is a 16 year old … and it’s
also a bit easier to make that
choice if one is a 16
    year old with unusually robust
    financial resources (compared
to the typical 16 year old female
    persons I encounter).

    But, surely, this potential mother
    had every sort of pregnancy
    prevention information available
    to her…surely???

    (And, please, don’t call me
    Shirley.)

    Zip suggests legitimate issues.

  6. Shit, I don’t care what some Facts of Life chick has to say. I wanna know what Esther Rolle from Good Times would say.

You know, I get the sneaking suspicion that this girl is a poster girl for more cannon fodder for the military machine–the breed until you drop shit to fuel the permanent war on terrorism.

Hey, teens, since you all is gonna breed anyway, keep the Unborns, we can use them! Keep breeding, keep breeding! Hey, didn’t the Nazis used to give out medals to chicks who bred like Titney?

Yeah, it’s really nice to Do The Right Thing (if you’re rich enough to pay for it for the next 18 years).

  7. Holy Terror

From what I am witnessing of the slack-jawed youth, on these Maury Povich type talk shows, and court shows, etc.–they don’t even have the emotional intelligence to choose adoption. They have no clue the sacrifices that parenting will demand of them, nor are they prepared to make them. The dysfunctional cycle continues…

  8. Been There Done That

I agree with Javelin- a good role model because she’s keeping the baby? She’d be a better role model is she wasn’t having sex with her boyfriend at 16.
And Holy Terror is spot on about a girl her age not having a clue about ” the sacrifices that parenting will demand of them, nor are they prepared to make them.” All she’s thinking about is buying tiny baby clothes and a pretty sleeping baby/doll.
Of course her baby will never keep her up all night because it’s colicky, vomit like Linda Blair in the Exorcist, have a physical defect, down syndrome, etc. Because when you’re 16, you don’t think realistically.

    Almost wet myself over what
    Tellin Ya said and
“Who the hell IS Lisa Whelchel?”

  10. Jo Jo

At least she chose life over murder (abortion), but probably Lynne Spears will be raising this baby while Jamie Lynn is out partying at the local motels.

  11. martini lover

last time i checked this wasn’t a pro-life blog, jo jo. please keep your “murder” remarks for the ann coulter blog.

  12. Aine

Well said martini lover. Keep your Pro-choice/pro-life arguments to yourself!
Lets just focus on the ridiculousness of this situation-such as old child stars wishing for a bit of publicity cashing in on a young girls inbred stupidity.

Boy howdy-Spears girls; They’re dumber than trees!

  13. You know, I fell into a tree once. I got a sudden case of vertigo. Good thing the tree was there. Maybe the tree was lonely.

  14. Jenn F.

Lisa Whelchel’s fifteen minutes of fame are over, so she’s grabbing at the spotlight and trying to sell her religious beliefs at the same time. And there’s nothing worse than someone trying to push their religious beliefs down other people’s throats.

  15. Aurora

Come on, so JLS is only 16, and she really screwed up… but she has the means to support and hire folks to take careof the kid. Lets just hope that crazy post partum doesnt hit he rlike it did Brit Brit.

If it were some poor 16 year old in 10th grade Id say ABORT ABORT ABORT.

Jamie got the ends to have a baby.
