Cameron Diaz’s Bag Even More Cringe- Worthy Than “The Sweetest Thing”

Cameron Diaz has been left red-faced during her visit to Peru — because her bag featured a slogan that’s offensive to the country.

The Shrek actress was visiting the Inca city of Machu Picchu yesterday carrying an olive green bag with a red star and the words “Serve the People” written in Chinese. In Peru, the saying is a reminder of the Maoist Shining Path insurgency, which caused mass chaos in the late 1980s and early 1990s, with almost 70,000 people dying during the massacres and bombings.

Oops.

Pablo Rojas, a prominent human rights activist in Peru says, “It alludes to a concept that did so much damage to Peru, that brought about so many victims. I don’t think she should have used that bag where the followers of that ideology did so much damage.”

Holy Candy tried to reach Cameron for comment, but she was too busy touring…

That’s the problem with all these bags and shirts with Chinese characters–you don’t know what the hell they say!

poor cameron! she must feel so awful.

it’s really just a shame that EVERYTHING we have is made in China.

Even though I’m assuming she didn’t purposefully do it, she should still issue some sort of apology. We have enough problems with foreign countries thinking we’re selfish idiots. We don’t need our idiot celebrities making it worse.

Not a good idea to insult the natives.

    Schweeet!
