“Shock jock” Don Imus, who was already dropped by MSNBC, was fired today by CBS Radio for calling the Rutgers University’s women’s basketball team “nappy-headed hos.”

CBS head Les Moonves said in a statement:
“There has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision.”
Sources say Imus is hoping to parlay his “talent” for words with other potential employers with no regard for young women of color, such as 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg, by changing his name to “Elderly D” and writing songs for their upcoming albums. A sneak peek reveals touching lyrics such as:
“I’ll take you to the candy shop
I’ll let you and them nappy-headed hos lick the lollipop…”
And…
“I got a pocket full of rubbers and my homeboys do too
So turn off the lights and close the doors
But (but what) we don’t love them nappy-headed hos, yeah!”
Just goes to show… when one door closes, another opens.

Where and with whom does censorship begin, and where does it end? Once it starts, it will have infinite possibilities, which is a scary thing to Freedom of Speech.

Rejoice!!! “Ding–Dong, The Wicked Witch Is Dead!”: And Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Riely are Next!!! They may not be Nappy Headed like Imus, but they sure are hos!!!

This is a direct Quote taken from the Howard Stern Web Site from the transcript of his April, 11, 2007 Show:
Howard proceeded to turn the discussion back to Imus, with Robin recalling how he once called her the n-word while she was talking to his girlfriend when they worked at NBC together. Howard added he heard Imus use the same word when talking to an African American secretary at the station as well.–End Of Text–
This is the person Imus really is!!! Stop defending a monster…they can defend themselves, of fail trying!!!

Firing Imus is certainly not censorship. It’s firing someone who is clearly contributing to the loss of income to the company. A person absolutely has the right to say what they want - but they have to know that they must pay the consequences. It’s not against the law, but most companies will not put up with bigotry spouted from their employees. I work in payroll and I would be fired in a second if I made these comments. (Which, of course - I never would!!)

E–you are absolutely correct in what you wrote. I just object to the “speech police” trying to control the vocabulary of everyone, so words they dislike cannot be uttered or written by anyone; and there are certain words that can only be spoken by segments of the population. Are we eventually going to have a “rule book” of accepted words to use? Zip–I’ve never seen a Tarantino movie and don’t intend to. By the way, I’ve never heard Imus on radio or tv, but I had heard OF him, as I’ve heard of Howard Stern (but never listened to him) and don’t know who Robin is. Art Bell and George Noory are my favorites on the radio. I hope you have a peaceful day! Got to go now and read Ann Coulter’s and Michelle Malkin’s columns!

You said you hated Art Bell and George Noory…or at least that’s what I thought. I love those guys!!! Especially George these days!!!
When it comes to Tarantino…well, “True Romance”…a film that he wrote, but didn’t direct is interesting, and may be the best thing he’s ever done, thanks to co-writer Roger Avary that is. But, it’s a brutal film…as is “Pulp Fiction” and “Resevoir Dogs”. That said, the rest of Tarantino’s stuff, like “Kill Bill” is horrible. I think the critics love him, because they love saying his name…it just sounds important and in-crowd cool.
Check-out “The Note Book”, now that’s a really great film directed by Nick Cassevetes. It’s not related to Tarantino in any way…and is just about the best film that’s come out in the last decade, or longer!!!

I LOVE Art Bell and George Noory and Coast to Coast. It shocked me that Art got married so fast after Ramona’s death and moved to Manila, but there is no one like him. George is wonderful and brilliant. I haven’t seen “The Note Book,” but I’ve heard of it.

Yeah, I feel the same way about Art’s instant marriage after his wife’s passing. I just hope he was just lonely…after all, I know he was suicidal for a bit there. But for me, George is pretty much the free spirit that Art used to be, before all his (Art’s) recent personal troubles.
Get “The Note Book” right away…you’ll love it…it’s very romantic–a movie about true love. It was a feeling conveyed so well on screen, the leading man, Ryan Gosling, and his leading lady, Rachel McAdams actually fell in love in real life!!!

Late one night, I’d had a little 50-year old single malt Scotch while listening to Coast to Coast, and I e-mailed Art, while he was on, and told him I loved his show and that he has a very sexy voice, which he does. I didn’t say anything else, just that. I nearly fell out of my chair when he e-mailed me back and asked me to tell him about myself. I was too embarrassed to e-mail him back, so I didn’t reply. That was when Ramona was still alive; it made me feel disloyal to her. I was also reading his book, “The Quickening,” at the time. Did you hear his broadcast talking of Ramona’s death? It was very moving and heartbreaking. George has such a soothing, calming voice and wonderful spirit and is so kind to callers, even when they are really strange. I want to read his new book. I’m going to rent “The Note Book” this week.

Art Bell…he’s an interesting guy…who seems to have just a bit too much knowledge about local whore houses in Nevada for my tastes, so I was surprised, and not so surprised about his near immediate marriage to another woman. Still–like I said before, it could have had everything to do with his recent loss, both of Ramona and his father a few years back. And then there is his son…a male teacher with HIV attacked him, etc.
As far as George goes…he seems like a calming spirit…and very kind (like a mystic). I know there is a bit of a rogue there though, and he admits it…so I tend to trust him more because he claims that he’s not sin free…I mean, who is, except for Jesus, but I guess he’s as good as it gets??? I think real people who don’t hide their flaws are more trustworthy. It would appear that George is like that…perfect imperfection at its best.
On another subject, as I said in my previous posts, and I hate to repeat myself but, you’ll love the “Note Book”…it’s very special. And if you love it as I think you will, you’ll also love a movie starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour…it’s called “Somewhere In Time”. It was a favorite of Art and Ramona Bell–truly a classic!!!
On a end note, I guess if you would have answered Art back via email…you’d be married to him right now, instead of his new wife…but you never know???

I concur with everything you said about George. He’s the real deal, I think. His kindness to callers impresses me a lot, even when that guy who claims to be the devil calls in, he isn’t rude to him. George does have a calming spirit. Art can get a little more riled up, and I love to hear that, too, though. I love “Somewhere in Time;” the music in it is beautiful, too. A classic time travel movie! I’ve heard Art and George talk about it on C2C. Did you know Art and Airyn are expecting a baby?

Glad you’ve seen and like (love)”Somewhere In Time”–it’s a real favorite of mine. Now you have an idea of what “The Note Book” feels like in tone.
Art and Airyn (So that’s how you spell here name? I never knew…anyway, they) are planning to call their baby Asia (well, if she’s a girl, that is)since she was conceived in China.
I’ve got to go…George is coming on the air now!!! Bye for now!!!
